Our commitment
We want everyone to be able to use FleetCommander — the office team, mechanics, dispatchers and drivers — including people who use a screen reader, only a keyboard, screen magnification, high-contrast settings or voice control.
The standard we work to
We work to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, and follow WCAG 2.2 Level AA where we can. WCAG is the measure most widely used for websites and web apps under the Americans with Disabilities Act and California's Unruh Civil Rights Act, and the one public bodies such as school districts are asked to meet.
What we have done
Every page of the app and of this website was checked with automated accessibility testing (axe) in light and dark colour themes, and the problems found were fixed. The checks for colour contrast and for named controls now run automatically on every change to FleetCommander.
Text has enough contrast against its background (4.5 to 1 or more) in all twelve colour themes, and form fields have visible outlines.
Everything can be done with a keyboard: a Skip to content link comes first on every page, the control you're on always has a clear outline, pop-ups keep focus inside them and give it back when they close, and menus and lists move with the arrow keys.
Screen readers hear every button, field, picture and table by name, are told which fields have an error and why, and hear messages such as "Saved" or "Couldn't do that" as they appear. Pictures that sit beside a written name are skipped so the name isn't read twice.
Animations are switched off when your device asks for reduced motion. There are no CAPTCHA puzzles.
Invoice PDFs — the ones we email and the ones you download, for your company and for school districts — are tagged for screen readers (PDF/UA): headings, the table of charges with its column headings, totals and payment details are read in order, the logo is described, and the font is built in. Every invoice can also be opened as a web page (View / print).
What isn't there yet
Report downloads as PDF are not yet tagged for screen readers — download a report as a CSV spreadsheet instead, which works with them. (Invoice PDFs are tagged.)
Links to maps open Google Maps, which has its own accessibility support. Photos, documents and videos that your company uploads are shown as they were added — for example, a video may not have captions.
Tell us about a problem
If anything in FleetCommander is hard for you to use, please tell us at support@fleet-commander.us or through the Contact us page. Say which page you were on and what happened. We will work with you to get you what you need another way while we fix it.
